Why We Start Every Rider with an Evaluation Lesson

It’s more than just a first ride, it’s your foundation.

  • Safety First: We use the Intro Lesson to introduce students to safe practices around horses, including grooming, tacking up, and barn etiquette.

  • Skill Assessment: It helps our instructors understand each student’s comfort level, riding experience, and learning style so we can tailor future lessons.

  • One-on-One Attention: The session is private, giving students the space to build confidence and ask questions without pressure.

  • Meet Your Horse & Instructor: Students are introduced to one of our trusted school horses and their instructor, helping establish trust and communication right away.

  • Facility Orientation: We give students and families a tour of our beautiful facility and explain how our program works.

  • Intro to Our Teaching Style: You’ll experience how we teach horsemanship, not just riding through a hands-on, educational, and fun

  • Determine the Right Fit: It’s an opportunity for both the rider and the instructor to see if the program is a good match before committing to a monthly package.

  • Next Steps Made Easy: After the lesson, we’ll recommend a program level and schedule based on your goals, availability, and readiness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Evaluation Lesson and why is it required?

The evaluation lesson is a required first step for all new riders at Cudo Equestrian. It allows our instructors to evaluate each rider’s experience, confidence, physical readiness, and horsemanship knowledge in a safe and structured environment. This ensures every rider is placed correctly and matched with the appropriate horse, lesson format, and learning level.

What riding style does Cudo Equestrian teach?

We teach English, specifically Hunter/Jumper, Eventing and Dressage, with a strong emphasis on:

- Correct fundamentals

- Balanced, effective riding

- Clear communication between horse and rider

Our program is built around developing well-rounded horsemen and horsewomen, not just riders. We focus on understanding how horses think, move, and respond, both in and out of the saddle.

While our foundation is English, the skills taught translate across disciplines and prepare riders for long-term success.

Is the evaluation lesson just for beginners?

No. The Intro Lesson is for all riders, including:

- Brand new riders

How long is the evaluation lesson?

Intro Lessons are 60 minutes long and intentionally structured to allow time for:

Testimonials

We had an amazing first experience at Cudo Equestrian! My daughter had never ridden before, and the intro lesson was the perfect way to start. The instructor took time to show her how to groom and tack the horse, which made her feel comfortable and confident before getting in the saddle. By the end of the lesson she was steering and even trotting a little! The farm is beautiful and very well run. We loved how they focus on teaching real horsemanship, not just riding. We signed up for lessons right after the evaluation!

My son had ridden a few times before, but the evaluation lesson at Cudo Equestrian really stood out. The instructor spent time assessing his skills, explaining proper horse care, and helping him improve his riding in just one session. I appreciated how organized the program is and how much emphasis they put on safety and learning about horses both on and off the saddle. It’s clear they are passionate about developing well-rounded riders.

The evaluation lesson was fantastic and gave us a great introduction to the program. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and explained everything step by step. My daughter loved learning how to groom and prepare the horse before riding. The one-on-one instruction during the lesson was excellent, and the facility is beautiful. You can tell this program is focused on building confidence, responsibility, and real horsemanship skills.
